Martin Hahn

Martin Hahn has been head of the International Cooperation Department at the German Red Cross (GRC/DRK) national headquarters in Berlin since 2007. The GRC currently has around 80 delegates in the field and cooperates with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in more than 50 countries around the world. A paramedic by profession, Dr Hahn holds a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) in Economics. He worked as cooperation coordinator and deputy head of delegation for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Israel and the autonomous and occupied territories in the West Bank and Gaza for more than ten years. His first mission in 1995 was to establish a well-functioning emergency medical and ambulance service jointly with the Red Crescent Society in the Palestinian Territories. His most recent postings saw him working at the Regional ICRC Delegations in Central and Southeast Europe, and later at the ICRC Regional Delegation for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean in Pretoria. Dr Hahn's particular field of expertise is emergency response in conflict environments, as well as disaster relief operations during natural disaster situations on an international level. In recent years he has engaged more extensively in Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development (LRRD) and developmental approaches, in particular in the fields of organisational development, capacity building and disaster risk reduction.
