Joost Butenop
Dr Joost Butenop MD MPH PhD has been working in humanitarian relief and development assistance for more than ten years. He worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Afghanistan, Angola and Pakistan, and with other aid organisations in Sudan, The Gambia, Zimbabwe, India and Malaysia. From 2005 till 2007, he was MSF's operations advisor at the project department in Berlin, supporting projects in countries including Chad, Central African Republic and Indonesia's Aceh province. Since 2008, Dr Butenop has been technical advisor for humanitarian collaboration at the Medical Mission Institute in Würzburg, Germany, where he has worked as a consultant for relief operations in Myanmar, India, Zimbabwe, Haiti and Pakistan for organisations including Caritas, Cordaid, Malteser and GTZ. He teaches a number of postgraduate courses (in Bochum, Heidelberg and Fulda) as well as pre-departure preparation courses for various humanitarian organisations.
