Joachim Gardemann

Joachim Gardemann (1955), is medical doctor (1983) and consultant in paediatrics (1989) and public health medicine (1993) and is master of public health (1994).

After working in social paediatrics in Germany he joined the University of Applied Sciences in Muenster, Germany as a full professor (1997). There he is working in the fields of medicine, public health and humanitarian assistance.

From 1999 to 2001 he was Director of the German States´ Academy of Public Health in Duesseldorf. From 2002 to 2008 he was medical director of the regional branch of Westphalia-Lippe of the German Red Cross. Since 1994 he is a German Red Cross member of the Emergency Response Units (ERU) of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

His working experience as health delegate, health coordinator, paediatrician and senior medical officer with IFRC or ICRC is covering emergency missions in Tanzania (1995 and 1998), Macedonia (1999), Iran (2003), Sudan (2004), Sri Lanka (2005) the Peoples Republic of China (2008) and Haiti (2010) additionally he has teaching and research experiences in Serbia (2002), Macedonia (2003), Mongolia (2002) and Ethiopia (2007).
