
Günter Lauer
Günter Lauer is a Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and regional Plastic Surgery, Deputy Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, University of Technology, Germany since 2000. At present he is Visiting Professor at the Medical University Vienna, Austria.
He takes his main interest in plastic-reconstructive surgery and especially in cranio-facial surgery. After studying Medicine at Heidelberg University and Dentistry at Freiburg University he completed his specialist training at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery University Hospital Freiburg. Since 2003 he has spent in total 10 missions of a fortnight each in Cambodia performing cleft surgery and craniofacial surgery. Together with Neurosurgery colleague Thomas Pinzer they have developed a simple approach for the repair of a common craniofacial malformation - frontoethmoidal meningoencephaloceles - suitable for third world conditions. Since 2006, he is a Member of the Board of Ärzte der Welt.
