Andreas Wigger

Andreas Wigger is head of the Central Tracing Agency and Protection Division at the ICRC Headquarters in Geneva. Born in 1956 in Switzerland, he holds an MA in Theology and an MSc in Development Management. He has worked as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) since 1985, in Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan. His work has involved visiting prisoners of war, civilian internees and other people deprived of their freedom in most of the countries of the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia. He has also carried out and supervised protection activities of civilians, including restoring family links and the search for missing people in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and South Asia. He has been head of the ICRC's Central Tracing Agency and Protection Division since 2008.
