
Wolfgang Jamann
Since August 2009, Dr. Wolfgang Jamann is Secretary General of Welthungerhilfe. A Development Sociologist, with a Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Studies, Wolfgang Jamann has worked over 20 years in development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. From 2004 to 2009 he was National Director of CARE Deutschland-Luxemburg. Before that he was Head of Programs for World Vision (WV) Sudan, regional representative to the East Africa Region, and team leader humanitarian assistance at WV Germany. ‘
In his earlier professional years, Wolfgang Jamann has spent time in East and Southeast Asia, mostly as Researcher and Academic Scholar, studying Chinese and local languages. After 1990, he entered practical development work and served as Program Officer for the German Foundation of International Development (DSE) and worked for the United Nations Development Program in Zambia. He has focused on capacity building and training throughout his career, and has become Certified Trainer in program planning and management, as well as conflict prevention and peace building. In this capacity he has provided expertise to numerous conferences and workshops, mostly on the relationship between aid and conflict, and on practical experiences from the humanitarian field. Wolfgang Jamann has published several books and articles on East and Southeast Asia, and has contributed to publications on Complex Humanitarian Emergencies as well as conflict and peace studies; namely the «Do No Harm» initiative of Mary B. Anderson.
