Paul Bouvier accomplished his schools and medical studies in Geneva. He worked with the ICRC in the early 1980's in Africa and Central America, in detention and assistance operations. Mr. Bouvier then trained in Paediatrics and specialized in Child Public Health in London.
From 1989 to 1997 he worked at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Geneva, where he directed research in child public health in West Africa and in Switzerland. From 1997 to 2007 he directed the Child Health Services of Geneva, in charge of health protection and promotion for the children and youth of the canton. He worked notably on child abuse, violence prevention, and promotion of resilience and children's rights.
In 2007 Paul Bouvier was appointed as the Senior Medical Advisor of the ICRC, a position in support for the governing organs and units of the ICRC on the health policies and ethical issues.
He participates in field operations in detention, and develops projects pandemic preparedness, psychosocial health, and ethics in humanitarian action.
