Joost Butenop

Dr. Joost Butenop (41), MD MPH, has been working both in humanitarian relief and development assistance for ten years. He worked with Médecins Sans Frontières in Afghanistan, Angola and Pakistan, and with other organisations in Sudan, The Gambia, Zimbabwe, India and Malaysia.
From 2005 till 2007, he was Deputy Programme Manager at the project headquarters of Médecins Sans Frontières in Berlin, managing emergency relief projects in Africa and Asia including support to Darfur refugees in Chad and the Tsunami intervention in Aceh, province in Indonesia.
Dr. Butenop has been working since 2008 at the Medical Mission Institute in Würzburg, Germany, with responsibility for humanitarian cooperation, tropical medicine and teaching. He was active in relief operations in Burma, India, and Zimbabwe and teaches in various postgraduate courses.
