Since 1991, Colin has worked mainly for the Non-Government Organisation (NGO) sector in the assessment, development, coordination, and evaluation of water supply and sanitation programmes in nine African nations, together with a consultancy/advisory role in five others.
He has been involved in the informal capacity building / training of local assistants to expand and develop their skills, and has regularly taught in various formal training programmes that focus on community development issues and public health for developing nations (training in the UK, USA and South Africa). In 2000, following his presentation at Cardiff University to a joint meeting of the Welsh branch of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), he helped to initiate a programme for young engineers to gain experience in public health engineering in developing nations. This has now become known as Engineers for Overseas Development (EFOD: http://www.efod.org.uk) and is ongoing.
Since 2008, Colin has been working as an Independent Specialist offering external evaluations and short-term technical advice and assistance to organisations working in water supply and sanitation both in humanitarian aid and in longer term development.
