Angelika Beer
Angelika Beer was born in 1957 in Kiel, Germany.
Physician's Assistant and Paralegal, Angelika Beer is Charter member and Founder of the German Green Party and has been taking part into several citizen initiatives, grass roots movements against nuclear energy and arms race since 1979. She remained member of the Green Party until 2009. In 1987, she became Member of the German Parliament and Member of the Parliamentary Assembly for the NATO and for the European Council.
Three years later, Mrs Beer was appointed Referee for human rights as well as Coordinator for the International Campaign for the Proscription of Landmines by Medico International.
In 1991 she became part of the National Board of Alliance 90/TheGreens, and from 1994 till 2002 she served as a Member of the German Parliament, the Spokesperson for Defence Policy, as the Chairlady (Obfrau) for Alliance 90/The Greens - among others within the Committee for Defence Policy and Subcommittee for Arms Control and Disarmament and Non-proliferation, in the Committee of Foreign Policy and in the Committee for European Affairs.
In 2002, Angelika Beer became additionally the National Chairperson of Alliance 90/The Greens. As Member of the Greens/European Free Alliance, she has been Member of the European Parliament from 2004 till 2009.
Angelika Beer is now Co-chair of the newly founded Parliamentarian Network for Conflict Prevention and Human Security within the East West Institute (Brussels, New York, Moscow). Moreover, she is Member of the Advisory Board of the Committee for a Democratic UN (KDUN), Member of Europa-Union Germany, Chairperson and Founder of the Association of Tolerance and Moral Courage, Neumünster, Germany, and is Member of the Information Center for Transatlantic Security (BITS), Berlin.
